Tomorrows Yesterday

I feel sure that most of us have heard that old saying, never put off till tomorrow what you should do today. When God sent me this, my mind went to the thought of, is what I’m doing today, what should be done today. While in this mode I discovered something very surprising for my character and work ethic. It seems that I tend to (now hear this) “I spend to much time planning for tomorrow and when It arrives, I can now see how much I missed yesterday!” Proverbs 19:21 (NLT), You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. Consequently, all of “MY” thinking and planning is usually in-vain from the get, go because “MY” got in the way and God could not lead.

It all comes down to a couple of common issues that infect us all and no one is immune. We have either a control or a truth issue and sometimes we suffer both. That is why God assures us in Matthew 6:25 (NLT), That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life, whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? We are all too often get sidetracked by the enemy of our soul from allowing God to use us as agents of change. We spend far too much time worrying over those things which we cannot and shouldn’t control. I received this revelation a long time back; if I am doing everything that God asked me to do today, “I am always ready for tomorrow.” God assures me in Matthew 6:33 (NLT), Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

The first issue involved is, The control aspect! In my case this is a situation of pride, more so than any other reason. In almost every case where I’ve taken or kept control, it’s been because I didn’t think God would do things as fast as I wanted and / or the way that I wanted. My inordinate opinion of myself wouldn’t allow me to trust God, to have my best interest at heart! Even though God tells me in Psalm 37:3 (NLT), Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Which is again proclaimed in Psalm 28:7 (NLT), The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. This issue of trust is of such magnitude that God inspired its placement in His Holy bible 147 times. It is vital that all of us understand just how important it is to surrender control to God! Control is a natural visual affirmation of God’s presence in genuine trust! Psalm 143:8 (NLT), 8 Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.

The most important issue here is The question of TRUTH! I find it very intriguing at how trust is synonymous with love, we also know that one cannot trust without love nor love without trust. God tells us in Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT), And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. Now the question is; Do we love God from our heart or from our mouth? Our visual action will always reveal the correct answer in due time! Again, Jesus explains through John 14:23-24 (NLT), 23 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. 24 Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. A simple examination: are we doing what Jesus says? To help us understand even more, we were given 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT), 4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Now that we know about love, do we reflect God in our everyday life? If not why?

This writing is not to point fingers, cause shame or guilt, it is not meant to be condescending or repugnant. It is simply meant to provoke each reader to examine his or her-self and see if our lifestyle depicts what we say we believe. Remember the most important thing one must do today in preparation for tomorrow is in Mark 12:30 (NLT), 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. If we will make this our main thing or theme all the rest will come together. So please! Start of each day repeating (out loud) Psalm 51:10-13 (NLT), 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. 11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and make me willing to obey you. 13 Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.

My prayer for you this week is from Philippians 1:9-11 (NLT), 9 I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. 10 For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. 11 May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ[a]—for this will bring much glory and praise to God. Amen
