The Value of Ordinary

Sunday’s Monday

Over the last several years I have received the revelation which has managed to destroy my most valuable excuse for shunning my responsibilities of following Jesus. I have always been able to justify my lack of action or involvement in spiritual situations (especially dealing with others) by openly stating (out loud in public) I’m no bible scholar or a preacher, I’m not trained, heck I’m just an ordinary guy. The best I could do is confuse someone even more than they are already!

This type of worthless self-appraisal is more common today than one could estimate and as a follower of Jesus, I’m here to explain how ridiculous and sinful this type of thinking really is. Acts 1:8 (NLT), But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” As a follower of Jesus, you have been given the power to be a witness for Jesus, which reveals the truth of the life of Jesus for sharing. You see, in the beginning I felt I had no story worth sharing, ergo God allowed me to use His life story of Jesus until He could convince me of the power within an ordinary life.

Ordinary reads in dictionary.com; of no special quality or interest; commonplace; unexceptional; plain or undistinguished. I could not find any numbers worth using as google seems to tie ordinary people and politics together. However there seem to be 100s of millions that consider themselves to be ordinary and ordinary is disqualified by default. This is a huge assumption planted inside the minds of the weak, watered by the pretenders taunting and allow to grow by our absence of faith. As Paul addresses this in 1 Timothy 6:12 (NLT), Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. Ordinary is not a word used by Jesus because nothing about Jesus is ordinary and everything touched by Jesus becomes new, which in turn is extraordinary!

Should you doubt what I’m insinuating, please take an hour or so to think about your story (testimony) and then write it out on paper. Then read it back a couple of times and make whatever changes you desire. Next get a current copy of your local newspaper and read the people articles “carefully.” Compare your story to those articles (about people) you’ve read and observe the points in each that are similar. Should you discover multiple points, I would say, you’ve found an additional ordinary person and maybe more than one. I will guess, if your honest, there are a lot more commonalities than you desire. Romans 3:23 (NLT), For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Everyone; “yes, everyone” has a story and there is no other story exactly like your own personal story and no one can express your story as well as you. You see, I can tell the facts as you’ve explained them to me however, I can’t communicate the emotions you dealt with while going through it. It must come from you! Now; please, think back at the newspaper example and look at the ways your story might have or may help those involved to deal. The bible speaks of Jesus telling an ordinary man to “go tell:” Mark 5:18-19 (NLT), 18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with him.19 But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.” In the eyes of the hurting, confused, lost, broke, homeless and so on, the love of Jesus can change a life. But they need to hear about it, from an ordinary person that has been there done that and rescued by the grace and mercy of God. My story (testimony) carries that kind of value!

Ephesians 3:16-19 (NLT), 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

HAVE A BLESSED WEEK BY BEING A BLESSING TO OTHERS!
