His Hand

Refreshing Bible Study

Weekly Reading: Isaiah Chapters 38-42

Focal Chapter: 41

My Reward: Isaiah 41:13 (ESV), August 22, 2018

Scripture focus for me: Isaiah 41:13 (ESV), For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”

Why did this scripture engage me: There is a lot being said in this reading of God’s word, but this particular verse in chapter 41 hit me right between the eyes? I realize that I might be coming from left field for some of you, but this opened my mind to a time in my life when God took my hand in His and I found a peace like no other and times were good. However, my enemy sent a season where that peace turned to doubt, despair and discouragement. Not understanding what was going on, I asked God why He had removed His hand from mine, to which He replied, my hand has never moved! Well, it didn’t take a lot of thought to figure out His explanation.

Life Changer: This was a hammer between the eyes moment for me. God was and is faithful to His promises and this hand holding is a perfect example of mine. I realized in a millisecond that it was my hand that lost its grip “not His”. Once the connection was broken my security and peace fell capture to despair and discouragement. God’s mercy allowed me to reconcile my connection with Him through prayer and quite time (listening), while His grace restored my peace in Him. Thus, I tell this story often and warn others of my strengthened dependency on God’s power, protection and posterity. God truly is a good, good Father!

Prayer of gratitude and purpose: Father God; I thank you for having my back and for your long suffering in dealing with my lazy attitude in the midst of your bounty. I thank you Lord that you know my weaknesses and you’ve prearranged the people and situations to bring me your strength. Father please grant me the wisdom and strengthen my desire to hold tightly to your hand as we work to grow our loving relationship. Amen
