SPOILED, LAZY AND FLAT!

Sunday’s Monday

I have been spending a lot of time listening to people speaking, especially when it comes to prayers. I’m not saying this to be judgmental, because my purpose is to use it to improve my verbal connection with man and God. The one thing that resonates with me a lot, is what I’m hearing myself and many others praying. Before I continue, I must disclose that I was the firstborn child, as well, I was the firstborn grandchild of my Grandpa Loftin. I ruled the nest for 10 years, as 3 girls were added to the count. Then came my brother and a few years later another male was born to my aunt, by then I was spoiled beyond rotten and it continued till my mom died in 1998. I said that to explain my qualifications for recognizing spoiled and lazy. That having been said the lazy I speak of in this article is laid back, quick to use excuses, and always looking for shortcuts. Just as it is explained in Proverbs 12:15 (ERV), Fools always think their own way is best, but wise people listen to what others tell them.

Getting back to task, people when asking seldom ask to be a part of the resolution. They usually ask with the intent of receiving what they ask for. An all-time favorite of mine is Lord give me patience or give me grace; it is never Lord teach me how to have more patience or Lord what can I do to receive more of your grace and favor? I know we don’t do things to earn or receive but we should always look for ways to increase God's favor in our lives and we do that by diligently seeking to please Him. I find myself feeling sad over what is being revealed in my life and spirit. I’m like the person who worked for me once, he came in oblivious to what we were doing, and by the end of the day, he was doing a good job. The problem was he showed up the next day with a blank page and had to be taught again. It was obvious that his job meant little to nothing to him. He was okay with staying at the bottom because it had a small paycheck attached at the end of the week. However, his tune changed when I told him he had 4 days to learn and remember what he’d learned or he would have to leave. This man learned to learn (with a little help) and went on to be a department manager before his career ended. As this quote explains, he found his memory when he chose to drive instead of ride. “The capacity to learn is a gift; The ability to learn is a skill; The willingness to learn is a choice” Brian Herbert. Exodus 33:17 (ERV), Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will do what you ask. I will do this because I am pleased with you and because I know you very well.”

Many of us are unwilling victims as we don’t realize how spoiled and lazy, we’ve become. I look at my own life when I write most articles and today, I’m not satisfied with my prayer life. It has become little more than a trip to God’s spiritual gift shop, picking and choosing what I want without thinking of what God wants for me. Our relationship is suffering because the zeal is gone and I have flatlined in meeting with Jesus. I’m spoiled in exploiting God’s grace and mercy. The old man indeed died and the new man is suffering now because there is too much of me in everything. I continue meeting with Him faithfully, but I’m severely squandering His time in that I find myself trying to put “my spin” on His plan for my life. I look back at when I spent most of my time living the appearance of a good church Christian because I thought it was important. But God taught me that appearance is only acceptable to Him when it is a better reflection of Jesus. If people aren’t seeing Jesus in us, it is because He’s covered with our image and we are quenching His spirit. The only cure for overcoming spoiled, lazy, and flat is to keep the main thing, the main thing; Jesus has to be the main thing in our lives. Proverbs 12:9 (ERV), It is better to appear unimportant and have a servant than to pretend to be important and have no food. God created us to be who we are because we are in Him; celebrate it!

Dear God, show me how to communicate these words you’ve given me today that will help others to seek your will for us. Lord, I don’t like this flat, mundane, spirit, help me to bring it to full life once more. I commit my life to you to help me remove Me’s and I’s and replace them with you and us. I come today to confess it is “Thy will be done”. This day, I denounce this spirit of spoiled and lazy to be cast out and command the flat to leave. Help me with Proverbs 12:1-3 (ERV), Whoever loves discipline loves to learn; whoever hates to be corrected is stupid. It is good to learn what pleases the Lord because he condemns those who plan to do wrong. Evil people are never safe, but good people remain safe and secure. Lord, I pray we all can be excited to see your works and expect to see you in everything. Amen.
