UNDERSTANDING OUR UNDERSTANDING!

Sunday’s Monday

It has recently come to my attention that I have little understanding of what I think I understand. Now my take on understanding is our intellect; intelligence; comprehension; empathy and discernment. Which is to say human understanding is humans mentally programing humans from birth to death to have a cognitive intellect we call understanding. So, as we age, our intellectual file grows in cognitive programming to produce a confident, fleshly, and highly biased method of understanding. I usually think of it as my rationalization safety zone. When things get uncomfortable, I can run to my understanding (opinion) and stand firm because I believe what I think I understand. This is why God inspired the penning of Proverbs 3:5 (NLT), 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. You see, what we understand may not be the way of spiritual understanding.

We find as we enter into a relationship with Jesus that things are not what they seem, and His way of understanding is so vastly different from that of humans. It seems that we humans at some point developed a gene to produce an innate desire for survival, which instilled a “me first understanding”. We in turn grew a whatever it takes attitude which alters our understanding to accept selfishness, greed, superiority, and other self-serving virtues as spiritually correct. Why? Because our human understanding causes our belief system to make these cases defendable to those that believe otherwise. It’s time we acknowledged human understanding has been contaminated by worldly opinions since our birth. To prove my point, I ask the question; where did spiritual denominations come from? We are told in 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 (NLT), 12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So, it is with the body of Christ. 13 Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same spirit. Our goal is to have the mind of Christ to guide our understanding.

In June 2023 I celebrated 31 before 31, which simply means I have 31 years as an alcoholic and now I have 31 years of sobriety. The previous 31 years were dark, lonely, empty, and frightful but I needed each year to gain God’s understanding of life. I’m not going to fill this paper with a lot of fear-mongering details because I can easily tell you that whatever you truly think of a drunk, their thoughts are ten times worse about themselves. Their journey is not one to be desired or envied as the freedom and fun quickly vanishes and soon you are all you have. We become oblivious to understanding no matter right or wrong, there is nowhere to turn because those that could help don’t have spiritual understanding. Misfits (which cover a range of people that don’t fit in) are being wrongly persecuted through a gross misunderstanding of what Jesus came to do and did! After 31 years I never realized that I knew there are two different understandings: the flesh and the spirit. It took a meeting this past week for God to reapply this truth which comes from Romans 8:5-6 (NLT), 5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. God has given us an option of true understanding as is written in Colossians 1:9 (NLT), So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Abba; my prayer to you today, is for this to make sense to those that need to hear it and for it to encourage those who’ve already received it. Help all who read this follow what is written in Proverbs 3:6 (NLT), Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Lord, I pray that we realize that the closer we draw to you the more our spiritual understanding will grow to increase the God impact we will have on those around us. Lord, we ask you to fill us with your love and understanding so that we can pour it out onto others. Amen

HAVE A BLESSED WEEK BY BEING A BLESSING TO OTHERS!
