WHERE RECOVERY MEETS REALITY!

Sunday’s Monday

Many people aren’t aware of the fact that recovery is a constant part of human life. We are all recovering from something each day we live. Some may become obvious such as addictions to drugs or food, while others might not be so noticeable like romance or porn. We all have problems, and only a few in the big picture of people aren’t able to deal with them. Many people suffer in silence from different things that cause problems, and the majority of these reasons escape people’s recovery, which isn’t shocking. You see, the major evil here is us making bad decisions. Our pride, ego, and self-esteem refuse to allow us to admit the root cause, ergo, we live in a state of denial which blocks any hope of a total recovery. We are told in Proverbs 29:24 (ERV), You are your own worst enemy if you take part in a crime. You will not be able to tell the truth even when people threaten you.

What I’ve just explained is our personal denial of our failure to recognize we’re in denial! We say we do things that we really don’t, or maybe say things that we don’t really mean, and often make promises we don’t intend to keep. We in recovery (which is all of us) at some point meet reality head on and things fly all to @$&# quickly. Immediately our mind, believing it is protected inside its dome of denial proceeds to excuse the situation with more denial. Devoid of rational thinking we often unconsciously set out immediately to prove that we’re not the source of our problem. We avoid “at all costs” any type of investigation because secretly we know that we are the problem and because of pride, ego, and God we choose to keep it hidden. After all, asking God to help us remove the root and rectify the cause, would mean public disclosure and lots of change. All this is explained in the writings of Paul in Romans 1:18-23 as you can see, I used the (ERV) translation because of its simplicity.

Paul was very specific when he penned Romans 1:25 (ERV), They traded the truth of God for a lie. They bowed down and worshiped the things God made instead of worshiping the God who made those things. He is the one who should be praised forever. Amen. The problem is many of us know this but because we aren’t following Jesus, we’ve fallen into the clutches of religion to which our dependence and worship have turned inward instead of upward. I pray you noticed Paul said, “God made.” This is where Recovery meets Reality! If we get completely humble before God and brutally honest with ourselves, we will find our love for self to be greater than our love for Jesus. We spend a lifetime rewarding our flesh with gifts of thanksgiving, and praise for accomplishments, and worship our stuff to the point that enough can never be enough. Paul continues in Romans 1:29-31 (ERV), They are filled with every kind of sin, evil, greed, and hatred. They are full of jealousy, murder, fighting, lying, and thinking the worst things about each other. The Bible profoundly tells us within its covers, that Jesus is love, peace, and hope and His integrity is unapproachable. He came to make us a better people so that we could make this a better world. Imagine a world where everyone in it was just like Jesus. We are instructed in Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT), 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

My prayer this week comes from Romans 1:16-17 (ERV), I am proud of the Good News because it is the power God uses to save everyone who believes—to save the Jews first, and now to save those who are not Jews. 17 The Good News shows how God makes people right with himself. God’s way of making people right begins and ends with faith. As the Scriptures say, “The one who is right with God by faith will live forever.” Lord help us to know that our recovery from having a sinful nature cannot happen without you in today’s reality. Father, we witness bible prophecy being fulfilled all around us and yet it doesn’t seem to stir or enlighten those who don’t know you. Sadly, those trapped inside religion have been blinded into thinking they are operating within your will. Abba, help us learn to live a life pleasing to you that might allow them to remove the blinders and seek you out. Lord, thank you for choosing me to glimpse your precious reality that I might cherish being yours! Amen
